Hail and fierce rain pummel Poncitlán

Heavy rain accompanied by a freak hailstorm struck various parts of the municipality of Poncitlán on Monday, July 27, catching residents by surprise as the intense weather caused significant property damage. Emergency agencies were mobilized to respond to reports of flooding and other storm-related risks.

pg7bResidents shared photos and videos on social media showing the large size of the hailstones, which some compared to ten-peso coins. Images also illustrated streets carpeted in hail, along with damage to solar water heaters, domes, metal roofing panels and other structures exposed to the impact of the icy globes.pg7a

A home located on Calle Donato Guerra in the municipal seat sustained damage when a palm tree toppled onto the roof at the height of the storm. No one was injured, but some furniture and appliances inside the house were wrecked. The inhabitants have requested public support to help cover their material losses.

The Poncitlán Civil Protection and Fire Department Unit (PCyB) responded to several reports of flooding in homes in the town of Santa Cruz. PCyB personnel carried out cleanup and restoration work at the affected properties, helping families return to their homes under safer conditions.

Those efforts were carried out in coordination with Protección Civil y Bomberos in neighboring Zapotlán del Rey, with the agencies joining forces to address emergencies in both municipalities triggered by the storm.
