Letters to the Editor, October 17, 2026

Dear Sir,

At the start of the rainy season, we experienced multiple power outages, each averaging about 14 hours. In response, a petition expressing our concerns was submitted to the CFE electric utility.

Since then, we have had plenty of rain and wind, yet the power has stayed on. Perhaps our petition was heard, or perhaps efforts to improve the grid’s reliability were already underway.  Whatever the reason, the improvement is noticeable and appreciated.

Letters to the Editor, Spetember 26, 2026

Dear Sir,

Thanks for the article on page 3 of the September 19-25 issue entitled “Legal Residents forced to pay illegal tourist tax.” A better title might have been, “Volaris is up to their old tricks, again”.

Letters to the Editor, August 15, 2026

Dear Sir,

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make the 2026 Lake Chapala Society Children’s Summer Art Camp another wonderful success.

Letters to the Editor, August 1, 2026

Dear Sir,

I am a volunteer gardener in the Lake Chapala Society gardens. Working there puts me in immediate touch with the earth, which is as life-giving to me as breathing air. I am just a worker bee, pulling weeds, cutting dead foliage, and carting debris to the refuse pile. I hear the hum of conversation and laughter drifting from the Casa Linda Cafe, along with a mixture of languages. I notice visitors as they walk through the gardens — they grow quiet, commenting on what they see. Some come for the cats; others come just to sit and read, enjoying the second-best “clima en el mundo.”

Dear Sir,

“Re or er? That is the question.”

Since you asked ... English is an official or co-official language in 85 countries and territories worldwide. Yet only one country — the United States, along with its five or so non‑sovereign territories like Puerto Rico and Guam — uses American English spellings.

Letters to the Editor, June 27, 2026

Dear Sir,

On Sunday, June 14, the Rainbow Alliance held a Pride Celebration at Casa Aceuducto in Ajijic.  Over 300 people came out and celebrated gender diversity, inclusion, and friendship.  Despite the rain, everyone had fun.  Truly, the evident joy was a sight to behold!

Letters to the Editor, June 6, 2026

Dear Sir,

This letter serves as my application for the position of executive director of the Lake Chapala Society (LCS). I am sharing it with readers of the Guadalajara Reporter.

I believe that familiarity with LCS requires little explanation. The more relevant question is why I would wish to return to the position after previously serving as executive director. The answer is simple: LCS is experiencing a profound crisis of confidence that threatens its institutional stability and I believe I possess the experience, institutional knowledge, and leadership necessary to help stabilize and restore the community’s confidence in LCS.
