Jalisco intensifies measles response with 1.4 million vaccinations

Following last week’s report in this newspaper on the escalating measles crisis and the mobilization of university brigades, the Jalisco Health Department’s campaign to curb the outbreak has reached a critical phase.

As Jalisco solidifies its position as the national epicenter of the outbreak, authorities report making significant progress in vaccination, while implementing stricter safety measures in schools.

The latest federal data confirms Jalisco’s overwhelming share of cases, accounting for approximately 58 percent of the 2,027 confirmed infections reported nationwide from January 1 to February 5.

As part of the intensified response, over 1.4 million doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine have now been administered across the state. A major push last weekend alone saw more than 253,000 people vaccinated.
