Celebrating Valentine’s Day in Mexico will cost nearly 16 percent more this year, with a typical package of gifts and a dinner reaching just over 3,000 pesos, according to a recent report by the National Alliance of Small Businesses (ANPEC).
The report not only highlights the economic pressures couples face, but also focuses on the changing landscape of relationships in today’s Mexico. Behind the flowers, chocolates and romantic dinners, social trends paint a picture of a nation redefining love and companionship.

In its report, ANPEC highlighted the most recent data from Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), which shows a clear decline in marriage, with 486,645 unions registered in 2024 — a three percent drop from the previous year, continuing a steady downward trend. Meanwhile, single-person households are on the rise, now representing 14 percent of all homes.
