American School Art Fest
An institution at the American School of Guadalajara since 1978, the annual Art Fest offers professional artists a space to showcase and sell their work.
Buen Fin
If you’re thinking of making any big purchases in the coming weeks it may be best to wait until the “Buen Fin,” Mexico’s equivalent to Black Friday in the United States, from November 16 to 19. More than 1,500 stores in Jalisco took part in last year’s inaugural Buen Fin and many department stores and other businesses will be offering great deals and discounts again this year.
Primavera tour
The Reporter’s John Pint will lead a tour of the Primavera Forest to visit the Atarjea Tapada (Sheltered Spring) on Sunday, October 28. Learn the history of the Primavera Caldera and its Giant Pumic Blocks, walk through a beautiful Slot Canyon and taste the “world’s most delicious water” on this short walk of about one kilometer each way.
A quieter grito
For a “Grito” experience without the crowds of downtown Guadalajara or Zapopan on Saturday, September 15, head to either one of two popular spots on the western side of the city. The Glorieta Chapalita hosts a relaxed Grito party with all the right (culinary) trappings, as does the park at Bach and Millet in Colonia La Estancia. The Grito is “shouted” at 11 p.m. If you want more formality but an equally good time, head to a party at one of the five-star hotels. Bars and restaurants will also be doing a roaring trade.
Eroticism
Sex & Entertainment 2012, a trade show dedicated to the sex industry, continues this weekend at the Calle 2 complex on the northern Periferico (city beltway). Expect to find amatory articles and activities for all tastes, including the Beer Girls from Los Angeles, who douse themselves in suds for the enjoyment of spectators. Porn industry stars will showcase their assets, as will a multitude of vendors of sex aids and toys. Both male and female strippers will be on hand, organizers say.
Aquarius
Roll up, roll up, the circus is in town. But this water-themed event is not your average circus. Founded in Las Vegas, the Aquarius Circus features 25 traditional artists such as clowns, jugglers, acrobats and dancers performing their stunts in over 100,000 liters of water.
