Following the recent opening of the tunnel under the rail tracks at Novelistas and Avenida Juan Palomar y Arias (above), the latter avenue has finally been extended all the way to the Periferico.  The new stretch of Juan Palomar y Arias between Av. Naciones Unidos and the Perifierco which opened this week has six lanes and is expected to ease traffic flow on Av. Patria and Av. Acueducto.  Speed cameras will be in operation.

Comictlan, held Saturday and Sunday, August 2 and 3 at Expo Guadalajara, is celebrating 18 years as Mexico’s top entertainment and comic convention. It is a fiesta for fans and artists involved in comics, video games, anime, animation, vintage dress, toys, collectables and accessories, fantasy, Asian music, science fiction, film dubbing, writing, singing and much more.

Mariachi Festival

Organizers of the upcoming International Mariachi Festival in Guadalajara have announced dates for the traditional series of gala concerts at the Degollado Theater.

New U.S. franchises open

The Cheesecake Factory opened its first restaurant in Mexico in Galerias Mall last week and Jalisco Governor Aristoteles Sandoval Diaz was there to cut the ribbon. The restaurant offers more than 200 different dishes.

Jazz Festival

Presentations by artists participating in the Tonica Jazz Festival are slated at three locations along the route of the Via Recreativa on Sunday, July 13, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Bastille Day

The French community in Guadalajara (and their friends) will celebrate Bastille Day on Saturday, July 13, from 1 p.m. with a dinner at Rancho la Media Luna.
