Every year at this time I take a look back at the top tech news stories of the year just past. Of course my list is incomplete, but here are a few I considered worth noting.

A question from a reader recently showed up in my inbox. The question is “What is a hashtag?” Coincidentally the question I received arrived at about the same time as the date many people will consider the ten-year anniversary of the creation of the hashtag.
A question I get a lot is “What’s the maximum range of my Wi-Fi?”
The recent high-profile ransomware attack named Wantacry is the reason I was on the receiving end of quite a few questions concerning virus and malware and what can be done to defend against the threat.
Over the years I have been writing this column, I have assembled a group of contributors who as part-time visitors to Mexico, are unable to buy the paper every week and have expressed an interest in continuing to read my column.
