Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre switches on the operation of a new well that will significantly improve water services for more than 5,500 residents of San Antonio Tlayacapan and the upper area of Riberas del Pilar.

To strengthen the conservation of Lake Chapala in the face of growing environmental, urban and social threats, municipal authorities and academic institutions last week reaffirmed a commitment to support the lake’s recent nomination as a 2027 World Monuments Watch threatened cultural site. 

Statistics released this week by Jalisco’s Water Commission (CEA) show Lake Chapala standing at 63.2 percent holding capacity, with a volume of 4,991.4 cubic hectometers (hm3) as of Wednesday, June 3.
