First openly gay mayor slain in Guadalajara

Benjamín Medrano Quezada, who made history as Mexico’s first openly gay mayor when he led Fresnillo, Zacatecas, from 2013 to 2016, was assassinated in Guadalajara on the evening of July 7. His death was confirmed by authorities on July 10.
