Dozens of political aspirants began campaigns Sunday they hope will lead to a promised land on July 7, when voters in Jalisco go to the polls to elect a full slate of state and federal representatives and 125 mayors.

With hundreds of families reuniting for the holidays, this is the busiest time of year for the facility.  Passenger traffic passing through the city airport increased by 7.4 percent between January and November 2014, according to GAP, the airport’s operators.

Guadalajara’s most well-known clown, Lagrimita, has registered as an independent candidate for city mayor, while his son and sidekick, Costel, will stand for councillor.

Negotiating Guadalajara’s streets and avenues is about to get a whole lot more complicated in 2015 with road works planned on various fronts.  Also compounding the task of moving around the metro area will be the continuing work on the city’s third Tren Ligero (subway) line that runs from Zapopan to Tlaquepaque.

A freight train hit a bus attempting to cross a railroad track in Tlajomulco, killing two people. The crash occurred on Sunday, December 28 when the driver, following the 186 route, stopped to let a passenger off. He then failed to make it across the track before the train struck the back of the bus.

Jalisco government has announced plans to modernize its atmospheric monitoring stations as part of a winter strategy designed to combat worsening air quality over the colder months. 

The start of announced repaving work on the stretch of Avenida Lopez Mateos between the Periferico and the Bugambilias subdivision took some Guadalajara motorists by surprise on Friday. 

American citizen Alejandro Garcia got the “shock of his life” after applying for a passport for the first time at the U.S. Consulate in Guadalajara in August.
