Business owners on Puerto Vallarta’s revamped, pedestrian-only malecon are pleading with the state and city governments to allow traffic back on to the street adjoining the port’s boardwalk at certain times.

Puerto Vallarta appears to be back in favor as foreign tourists head for the resort in far greater numbers than in recent years.

The coastal municipality of Cihuatlán hopes to become the first in the state to develop one of its beaches as “disabled and senior citizen inclusive.” 

Red Parque Caninos, which has pioneered the opening of two parks in Guadalajara designed exclusively for dogs, has focused its eyes on Puerto Vallarta, where it hopes to create a “pet friendly” beach.

Anyone who has driven along Jalisco’s coastal Highway 200 between Puerto Vallarta and  Barra de Navidad will be aware that the 224-kilometer trip can turn into  a windy, tortuous slog – especially if one gets stuck behind slow-moving traffic on the two-lane road..   

Puerto Vallarta basked in a grand celebration of diversity as the city played host to some 8,000 tourists and locals for the colorful Second Annual Vallarta Pride 2014.

Barra de Navidad’s beach has been restored to the pristine condition it enjoyed before Hurricane Jova ripped through the Jalisco coastal town in October 2011.

The 2014 Pacific hurricane season officially started on May 15 and will end on November 30.  The season has almost gotten off to an early start, with a cluster of thunderstorms festering off the coast this month.
