US Marines to celebrate birthday
The United States Marine Corps, often the first into battle and the last to leave, will celebrate their 237th birthday on Saturday, November 10. Fittingly, since the Marine Corps was established during a meeting at the Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, they will gather for the ceremony locally at Trattoria Axixic (owned and operated by Juan Noltanious, a Marine).
Lakesiders are in for plenty of fireworks, festivity and religious fervor as two beloved icons make the rounds over the coming week.
Little Fernando Neira Sandoval presents Padre Adalberto Macias with a check for 12,500 pesos made from funds raised at the Terranova Institute’s recent “Run for Help” event.
Calle Marcos Castellanos turned into ground zero for Lakeside artists taking part in Ajijic’s vibrant October 14-15 art-in-the-street fest.
Newly installed Chapala Mayor Joaquin Huerta and U.S. Consul General Susan Abeyta appeared as headline guests at the Lake Chapala Society’s Oktoberfest, sharing the stage with master of ceremonies Hans Boentgen to officially kick off the October 6 event. Huerta opened the party with a warm greeting in Spanish and English, followed by Abeyta who showed off her fluency in German with the customary Austro-Bavarin keg-opening salute, “O’ zapft is!” (It’s tapped).
