Dear Sir,
In last week’s Letter to the Editor, Sofia Valdez Bustamante expressed concerns about the direction of the Lake Chapala Society Board of Directors. I appreciate her perspective, and I’d like to add a broader view. Not all Board members fit the picture presented in her letter. In fact, several long-standing members of the Board are steady, professional, and working very hard to bring balance and stability back to the organization.
Some of the recent challenges stem from the fact that some of the new Board members are still navigating the responsibilities and boundaries of their roles. It would be unfair to paint the entire Board with the same brush.
I also want to clarify one point: there is no “debugging committee” being formed. That appears to be hearsay, and it’s important that we distinguish between verified information and rumor.
LCS is going through a difficult period, but many dedicated people are doing their best to move things forward with integrity. My hope is that we can focus on facts, avoid generalizations, and support the kind of collaboration and maturity that will help the organization regain its footing.
